There are many reasons why a car may stall. It could be a reason as simple as being low on gas or the car runs hot or some other minor to major repairs needing to be done.

Well, because I experienced my car stalling on me, thinking that maybe it had run hot, I bought some anti-freeze and poured that in, but that didn’t work.  Don’t laugh! I’m a woman and I don’t know a lot about car repairs.

I sat in a hot car for about 30 to 40 minutes trying to start a car that wasn’t going to start. Eventually it did start, but I didn’t know why it stalled in the first place and at the same time, I was puzzled that it did eventually start. But, above it all, I made it home without incident.

After not having transportation for about a week, I had a mechanic to come to repair whatever was causing my car to stall. Well, to my surprise, his first attempt to start the car actually worked. How did he get it to start? Come to find out, my ignition switch was malfunctioning and was causing my car to stall.

How To Get Your Car Started Again

I wanted to share with you a temporary fix if this should ever happen to you. I can’t guarantee that this will work for you, because I am not a mechanic.

Before calling Triple A, try this:

First you turn the key in the ignition switch to a position where your dashboard lights will light up. When you see the dashboard lit up, turn the key to start your car, and there you have it! Your car should start and you can go on your way.

Remember though, if your dashboard lights don’t light up, your car will not start. As I’m sure you already know, your ultimate fix will be to get your ignition switch replaced.

I hope that this information will help you if you find yourself with a malfunctioning ignition switch.
